Village Spires Weather Station Configuaration
SUMMARY -
(Pictures of Weather Station Below)
VILLAGE SPIRES WEATHER STATION OVERVIEW -
The weather station consists of a
Davis Vantage PRO2 operating since April 10th 2006. This replaced a tired Oregon Scientific WMR-968 operating since September 2002.
The station was relocated from Dripping Springs, Texas to Vero Beach Florida and saw first "salt air" in January. The sensor assembly was relocated the first week of February up to the roof where it remains today. The station is connected to a
dedicated Sony Pentium 4 running Windows Xp. The html web pages are generated by Virtual Weather Station software and are pushed to a remote web server which provides
web access. These pages are updated every 5 to 10 minutes.
VERO BEACH LOCATION -
Sensor assembly is at 155 ft AMSL
Vero Beach, Florida 32963
At 145 feet above ground level (the beach), the
anemometer assembly has virtually a clear unobstructed reference. The location is approximately 150 feet from the Atlantic Ocean. The anemometer and sensor suite are secured to a mast on top of the condominium roof. The wireless signal is sent 10 floors down and across into my condo unit. I'm impressed with the range of the Davis Pro2 weather station.
METAR Weather Station, KVRB, at Vero Beach Airport is
located at Lat: 27.65, Lon: -80.42 and is approximately 5 miles east of the
weather station. KVRB
reports are used for elevation pressure offset adjustment and general weather
comparison.
WEATHER STATION EQUIPMENT -
The remote sensor assembly located approximately 200 feet from console with an elevation difference of 100 feet. Outside Temperature, Outside
Humidity,
Barometric pressure, rain collector at approximately the same elevation as the
Wind direction and Wind speed (145 above terrain) Indoor Console with inside temperature
and humidity are not published to the web. Weather sensors are sampled at various intervals and data is sent to
the Sony computer through a USB port.
Computer Hardware, Software & Web Pages
Virtual Weather Station,
Version 13.0, Internet Edition (VWS). I've been using the VWS software since 2002. It has good features, easy to set up and good after sale support. The computer is a Sony P4 1.70 GHz, 256 MB computer
running Windows Xp. It's dedicated to the weather station with no other purpose
(what else would you use it for?).
KNOWN ISSUES / OBSERVATIONS -
The elevation and proximity of the sensor suite to the ocean tends to dampen the temperature sensor's highs and lows vs. ground level. At this time I haven't determined any
know issues with the station. The quality of build and the ease of use renders
the Oregon Scientific a toy. But don't let that fool you, I had a Rainwise
set-up that cost me over $800 that had great build quality but the sensors were
notorious for reporting erroneous data. (luckily I sent it back within a month)
RANDOM NOTES -
Weather data on this site is for general reference only.
No liability is assumed by the use of information on this site. The term Weather Station is used herein to refer to the
system as a whole. The term sensor assembly is used to refer specifically to
the outdoor, mast mounted, sensor assembly.
CONCLUSIONS -
Overall I'm pleased with the Davis Vantage PRO2 Weather
Station. The equipment appears to be well built and was very easy to
install. As near as I can tell, it appears to be accurate. (from previous set-up in Texas)
